VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) is a modern HVAC technology that controls the flow of refrigerant to multiple indoor units for precise temperature control.
When combined with an Air Handling Unit (AHU), the VRF system gains the ability to deliver higher airflow volumes through ducted systems — allowing it to cool or heat larger or special-purpose areas like lobbies, halls, or manufacturing zones.
⸻
⚙️ Working Principle of VRF + AHU Integration:
- VRF Outdoor Unit supplies variable refrigerant to the AHU Coil Section instead of standard indoor units.
- AHU’s blower/fan section pulls return air and passes it over the VRF-cooled coil.
- Cooled or heated air is then supplied through ductwork to multiple areas/zones.
- AHU fan speed, temperature, and dampers can be individually controlled, while the VRF modulates refrigerant flow based on real-time thermal demand.
👉 A VRF-to-AHU kit (also called DX kit or AHU interface) is used to bridge compatibility between the VRF outdoor unit and third-party AHUs.
